Website or Facebook page: what does your small business need?
A Facebook page is free and quick, so why pay for a website? We compare the two for Pakistani small businesses and explain when you need each.
Almost every business in Pakistan has a Facebook or Instagram page. So a common question we hear is: do I really need a website as well? The honest answer: it depends on what you want customers to do.
What a Facebook page does well
- It’s free and quick to set up.
- Your customers are already there, scrolling every day.
- Messages and comments make it easy for people to ask questions.
For a small shop that mainly sells to people nearby, a well-run Facebook page can be enough to start.
Where a social page falls short
- You don’t own it. The platform decides who sees your posts, and accounts can be restricted without warning.
- It’s hard to find on Google. When someone searches for “school software Gujranwala” or “steel supplier Pakistan”, a website is far more likely to appear.
- It doesn’t look as established. Many companies, schools and buyers check for a proper website before they trust a new supplier.
- Limited structure. Product catalogues, price lists, downloads and online orders are hard to organise in a feed.
What a website adds
- A professional first impression with your own domain and email address
- Pages that can rank on Google for the services you offer
- A WhatsApp button and contact form that turn visitors into enquiries
- Room for catalogues, portfolios and online ordering as you grow
Our advice
Use both. Keep your social pages for day-to-day posts and conversations, and use a website as your permanent home on the internet — the place your social posts, Google results and business cards all point to.
